Pit Bull helps police to catch a thief

From the Boston Globe yesterday:

“A dog who apparently just wanted to go home helped Gloucester police catch a suspect in a robbery early today.

Ricci Marshall, 27, of Gloucester, allegedly brought a pit bull along when he tried to rob a convenience store on Maplewood Avenue at about 5:30 a.m., Officer Chris Frates said.

But Marshall met with determined resistance from the night clerk and a customer — and after fighting with them, he fled the store without the dog, Frates said.

While some officers searched for the suspect, one followed the dog as it headed home.

The dog’s owner told police he had been in all night, but he also allegedly said Marshall was staying with him — and took the dog for walks in the morning.

Marshall was arrested and faces arraignment today in Gloucester District Court on several charges, including unarmed robbery, Frates said.”
