The Moonlight Ball

>   Dog Events, Shelters  —  SNIF  @  1:36 pm

Edward John Gorey

You have probably seen this cute orange poster around in Boston: the illustrator is Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000). The poster promotes a fundraising Halloween event organized by the Animal Rescue League of Boston: the Moonlight Ball. During the event there will be an auction, too! The event will take place at the Boston Cyclorama on Saturday, October 20th.
A good reason to attend this event is that the proceedings will benefit the ARL mobile programs. An ARL track, in fact, moves from a location to another throughout Massachusetts by offering a subsidized spay/neuter program for individuals who have financial need, mobile adoptions, and a transport program for homebound individuals and their pets.

Dogs are very social in Boston!

>   Boston Woofstyle  —  SNIF  @  8:27 am

We did a little research on dog meetups in the United States. A meetup is a periodical meeting between people with the same passion. Those people are members of a group in www.meetups.com and similar websites. Dog owners usually get together based on the breed of their dogs. We found out that dogs in Boston are very social!
In meetups.com, Boston is at the 4th place for number of members, after New York, Philadelphia and San Diego, with 17 dog meetups and 3.167 memberships.

St. Francis loved dogs, too

>   Humorous Hounds  —  SNIF  @  8:07 am

St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brockton, MA is having a blessing of the animals on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at 4 PM.
The blessing is in the name of St. Francis of Assisi: and this is a very pretty dog t-shirt we found at Happy Paws, a pet shop in New York.

Boston - The MSPCA Advocacy Department is looking for volunteers to collect 120,000 signatures in order to place the Dog Protection Act on the Ballot in 2008. The Act will help to protect greyhounds and end dog racing in Massachusetts. More information are published here.

The Animal Action Center of the MSPCA is taking important actions to defend the rights of animals.

In their newsletter, they informed that there is an interesting hearing scheduled this upcoming Monday, September 24th at 1pm in Room A-1 at the Massachusetts State House. The hearing is open to the public.
In particular, Section 6 of H.727 would explicitly allow judges to include pets in temporary restraining orders. The bill is designed to protect victims of domestic violence and their pets. You can even email your Legislators and ask them to Protect Victims of Domestic Violence and Their Pets.

Doggie Day in Boston

>   Dog Boutiques  —  SNIF  @  2:40 pm

One favorite spot in Boston that the Sniffy Girls love is Doggie Day, a day care located at 400 Tremont St.
There are many reasons why we think Doggie Day is something special.

To start, the space is large; there are two rooms just for the day care. The rooms boast of sofas and webcams to make your dog’s stay the most enjoyable and relaxing it can be.
Doggie Day’s location is combined with ’sPoochies, a high-end pet boutique and spa that offers luxury pet accessories as well as grooming services. ’sPoochies is not strictly for dogs either it has Pussy’s Galore, a cat boutique. Doggie Day prides itself on carrying only the top end in brands for your pet and is pleased that not one of their food products was affected by the recent recalls.

What truly makes Doggie Day unique to us is the management team. Rob, one of the owners, helps dog owners organize great events here, including dog meet-ups for specific breeds and dog birthday parties.

Here is a short video from a pug meet-up at Doggie Day.

Emily, one of the groomers at Doggie Day, owns two beautiful poodles, Cy and Diamond. Cy and Diamond have been selected for a photo shoot for the company where we work: as you can see from the pictures, Emily knows how to make a dog look even more beautiful than he is already!

Chou Chou with Rob and Kat

Chou Chou

The fabolous little Yorkshire Sophie Chou Chou celebrated her second birthday yesterday at Doggie Day in Boston, MA.
The party was a great success! Chou Chou and her parents, Kat and Rob, invited Chou Chou’s best friends from the Little Yorkies Boston meetup group.
The sparkling birthday girl was wearing a pink outfit with a toutou in tulle, and pearls that she receveid as a birthday gift.

The room was full of colorful balloons, and decorated with flowers and butterflies. A entertaining video for dogs was playing on TV, and there were two cakes: one for dogs, prepared by Kat, and one for humans, with a big Yorkshire decoration on the top.

One of the most exciting moment of the party was when Kat opened the several gifts.

A couple of dogs were jealous of all the wonderful birthday gifts that the spoiled pocket Yorkie received. When everybody else wasn’t watching, Abby checked for some gifts left in a bag, but unsuccessfully.

At the end of the party, surprises weren’t finished yet. The bravehearth Bandit stole one of Chou Chou’s gifts!

Guests left the party with beautiful gifts, too, including the skectches, a box of M&Ms customized with Chou Chou’s name, and a notebook with Chou Chou’s picture.
More photos of the party are published here.

Thanks Kat and Rob for organizing such a wonderful and fun party!
