Responsible Dog Ownership Day
“Celebrate the Responsible Dog Ownership Day with your dog in Sommerville!” - Michele Biscoe
Tomorrow, September 15th, the Sommerville Dog Owners Group, the Somerville Animal Control Department as well as local businesses, rescue organizations and training clubs will celebrate the Responsible Dog Onwership Day at from 10:30 to 2:00 at Nunziato Field, adjacent to the Somerville Off-Leash Recreational Area (rain date: Sunday, September 16).
The Somerville Dog Owners Group promotes responsible dog ownership, safe and legal options for off-leash recreation, and the equitable distribution of open space in Somerville, MA.
Tomorrow, the Group will be kicking off their “No Pile Left Behind” Campaign on Responsible Dog Ownership Day. Come to Nunziato Field on Summer Street outside of Union Square, bring your dog, and sign a pledge to clean up after your dog every time!
On Responsible Dog Ownership Day you can also learn about local groups who are working in dog rescue including:
Beagles of New England States (BONES)
Poodle Rescue of New England
Underdog ResQ
The New England Dog Training Club will be offering information about the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, as well as rally obedience training. Rally obedience is a fun way for dogs and their owners to learn and compete in obedience.
While you’re at Nunziato Field on September 15, you can also get a professional pet portrait and treat your dog to a massage: local photographer Cattie Coyle Photograph will be offering pet portraits and JPE Massage and Nimble Limbs will all be offering pet massage on Responsible Dog Ownership Day.
Animal Spirit (2348 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge) plans to offer nail clipping at Nunziato Field. Boston Dog (70 Beacon Street), Somerville’s neighborhood general store and grooming for dogs and cats, also plans to have a booth at the event.
