HORRENDOUS!!!
Here at snifbostondogs.com, we try our best not to pass judgment on others’ tastes and preferences. We love how every person has a unique style and taste; it allows us to appreciate the differences in each other. That resolved, we are completely against animal cruelty regardless of what others may think or feel. This morning, we received an email from a good friend of ours asking us to sign a petition. After reading the petition and researching further on the topic, we feel the need to spread the word on this horrible event to as many people as possible.
Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, a Costa Rican “artist”, paid young children to capture a street dog. Once the dog was captured, he was tied to a wall in a gallery in Costa Rica and left there to die. Vargas told all visitors not to feed the dog any food or water. Not long after, the dog died in the corner of the exhibition. To add insult to injury, Vargas has been selected to represent his country in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008.
We may not be able to change the past, but we can change the future. Please sign the petition and help prevent cruelty against animals! If the link does not work, please try copying and pasting the following into your browser.

I was soooooo angry after seeing this I instantly wrote PETA in an effort to get better coverage on the issue. The letter they responded to me with explained that this was done in Nicaragua which has no laws to protect animals from cruelty. The Link they included made me feel slightly better because it explains that the VI Central American Visual Arts Biennale (in honduras this year) prohibit the abuse of animals as an exhibit. Although this was a horrible and disgusting act, it has prompted legislation to protect all animals in Nicaragua. At least some good can become of this tragedy.

Ya know there were actually some people defending the artist saying that the dog would have died on the streets anyway? I couldn’t believe it. Such a sad scene.
Thanks for the insight Jennifer on the lack of legislation on animal protection in Nicaragua, that’s quite an eye opener. I wonder how many countries lack similar laws.
Also, thanks for taking the initiative to write to PETA and it’s good to hear they responded promptly.
