Karice and ChiKaj are two children who came to the Boston Common with their dad Maurice to play with dogs. Karice’s name comes from the combination of her mom and dad name, Kaychj and Maurice. She enjoyed a lot taking pics of Luna and other dogs! Here is one of her nice shots.

Peters Park under construction

>   Dog Parks  —  SNIF  @  10:33 am

A lot is going on at Peters Park, the soon-to-be first official city dog park in Boston. We got some updates from the DRS Committee of The Friends of Peters Park, saying that “the actual construction of the new Dog Recreation Space should begin within a few weeks. In the meantime, we’ll be in the new space for a while and then back to the temporary space during DRS construction”.
Here are some pics of the area of the park that it is possible to use, with the dog Koah playing with her new friend!
Koah loves to grab objects that other dogs want, and to run around while other dogs try to catch her.

Also, remember that it is illegal to have a dog off leash in Peters Park outside the DRS, and Animal Control will begin ticketing for this offense.

The area of Boston Common where dogs usually run off leash is closed due to reconstruction, and dogs can use another area in the top of the hill.

The Fresh Pond Reservoir in Cambridge, MA

>   Dog Parks  —  SNIF  @  4:11 pm

The Fresh Pond Reservoir is a little heaven for dogs. So many dogs were around here yesterday (we took these pics just before the big storm), and the great thing is that they can go off leash if their owner is a Cambridge resident. You also need a Cambridge parking permit to park in the Reservoir’s parking lot.
Read more about their Dog Medallion Program here. As the City of Cambridge refers, the Program has been developed in cooperation with Cambridge resident dog owners and City staff in order to better protect our city’s drinking water while allowing Cambridge residents to enjoy a quality off-leash experience with their dog.

There is a long ring around a lake where you can walk with your dog. You can even play golf here.

Dogs also have their own private “swimming pool”.
Here is the beautiful Tigger, a twelve year old female, named from a Winnie Poo character by her owner Lauren. Tigger doesn’t like swimming so much, but she loves run around the “swimming pool” and play with other dogs.

In the Arboretum with Jason the dog walker

>   Dog Parks  —  SNIF  @  3:42 pm

dog walk

It was a perfect sunny day to join Jason and his dogs out in the woods.

Jason has worked as a dog walker for just a few months, and found the job when he moved to Boston from Connecticut. He had to leave his dog behind. That was one of the reasons he wanted to have a job he could be around dogs. Another reason is to have enough money for his hobby as a musician. He also has a second job as a sound technician, so there is not much spear time left. But he enjoys the time he spend with the dogs as a walker, especially on days like this!

Una

In the pic is Una waiting to run free in the woods.

We collected all the dogs around in Boston in Jason’s truck and headed towards Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain.

Hiking with Kevin

>   Dog Parks  —  SNIF  @  9:52 pm

Every dog has his favorite walker, and looks like that some dogs have a strong preference for Kevin. Kevin started to work as a walker two months ago.

Kevin takes the dogs twice a day to a wood. Taki the Yorkshire and Dunkan the Boston Terrier spent the all day with me and Kevin. Lily, Lucy the Boxer, Moose, Sally and Fred joined us to the morning trip, while Lucy, Felicia the poodle, Zeek the pug, Lucky, Manny, Charlie the Labradoodle and the two brothers Duncan and Oscar participated to the afternoon trip.

All the dogs were wonderful and very well behaving.
Kevin starts his day driving his van through the South End, Beacon Hill and Cambridge, to pick up all his “customers”.
In Beacon Hill we picked up one of my favorite dogs, Taki, a 2 months old Yorkshire named “The Toy”.

Dirty couldn’t join us because he had a little accident to his leg, but Kevin took him for a walk (and to say “Hi” to me and Taki, waiting in the van).

A treat once in a while makes the trip shorter.

The most exciting moment for dogs is when we arrive to the wood: watch what happens when Kevin opens the door of the van!

Here is Charlie the Labradoodle.

Kevin even nicknamed some of them.
Here is Sally “Sad Face”.

Here is Lucy.

Moose “Moossolini” got the stick!

Time to go swimming.

Here is Lucy.

At the end of the trip Kevin enjoys running in the forest and all the dogs run behind him, but Lucy is the only one able to jump with him at the top of this stone.

The worst part of the trip is the poop collection, something Kevin, as every responsible walker, is very concerned about. Kevin always has with him a funny bag dispenser in the shape of a bone.
Other than dogs, another of Kevin best friends is Febreeze. “He saved my life!” Kevin said, spraying the van full of smelly dogs. Febreeze was useful as Kevin also noticed that one of his customers (I won’t say which one of the group) has a gas problem…
